Parliament, Thursday, 9 May 2024 â€“ The Secretary to Parliament, Mr Xolile George, will hold a media briefing on Thursday, 9 May, to update members of the media on the progress made relating to Parliament’s reconstruction project.

The reconstruction project is a result of the fire on 2 January 2022 that gutted parts of the National Assembly and the Old Assembly buildings.

The media briefing will present the rebuilding project timelines as well as designs for the new buildings, which reflect the needs of a democratic Parliament, incorporate modern technological advancements, and enhance public access and involvement.

A guided walkabout of the affected sites will follow the meeting, marking the first occasion that media representatives will tour the interior of these buildings.

Details of the briefing are as follows:

Date: 9 May, 2024
Time: 13:30
Venue: Imbizo Centre, Parliament Precinct and virtual platform.

Members of the media who wish to physically attend the media briefing should send their details (Full name, name of the media house, and ID or passport number) to Masego Dlula at Mdlula@parliament.gov.za
