Parliament, Friday, 21 August 2026 – Chairpersons of the Economics Cluster oversight committees will brief the media and stakeholders on Monday, 24 August, as part of the 7th Parliament’s committee cluster media engagement programme.


The following three Committee Chairpersons will brief the media guided by the theme, “Commitment to economic & social transformation”:

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mr Mikateko Mahlaule, will speak about:
1. South African National Petroleum Company Bill
2. Mine Health and Safety Bill
3. Development of the petroleum industry in South Africa

The Chairperson of the Portfolio on Public Works and Infrastructure, Ms Carol Phiri, will speak on the following issues:
1. Construction site safety and built environment regulation (George and Sea Point
incidents)
2. Amendments to the Construction Industry Development Board and CBE legislation
3. Decentralised DPWI and Property Management Trading Entity (PMTE) regional model

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Land Reform and Rural Development, Mr Albert Mncwango, will speak on various issues before the committee, including:
1. Equity schemes
2. Legal aid for labour tenants

The 7th Parliament’s Committee Cluster media engagements play a pivotal role in providing updates and feedback to members of the media and the nation at large on the oversight work performed by parliamentary committees.
