Parliament, Wednesday, 31 October 2018 – The Ad Hoc Committee to Identify Suitable Candidates for the Filling of Vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) met on Wednesday and unanimously adopted its programme.

The programme includes calling for nominations that will be placed on the various media platforms, civil society comments on the CVs (curricula vitae) of the applicants, screening of CVs by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and verification of qualifications by Parliament’s Human Resources department, the selection process and afterwards interviews being undertaken. Thereafter, the committee will deliberate on the preferred candidates.

Eight vacant positions at the commission will have to be filled by the committee.

The committee will ensure that it creates an opportunity for people across the country to have an opportunity to participate in the process.

Members selected to serve on the committee are Ms Nonhlanhla Ncube-Ndaba (chairperson) Ms Grace Tseke, Dr Patrick Maesela, Ms Wilma Newhoudt-Druchen, Ms Boitumelo Maluleke, Dr Zukile Luyenge, Ms Terri Stander, Ms Denise Robinson, Ms Liezl van der Merwe, Ms Makoti Khawula, and Mr Ahmed Shaik Emam
