Profile

Mr Christopher Malematja is a Member of the National Assembly. He joined Parliament halfway through the 6th administration in 2022. In the 6th Parliament, he served on the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements and the Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry. Mr Malematja has 18 years of experience in the built environment and town planning. This experience proved valuable in the committees of the economic cluster where he served. Before joining Parliament, Mr Malematja worked with the leading town planning firm, Maluleke Luthuli and Associates, as Project Manager, town planner and construction manager. In the 7th Parliament, Mr Malematja serves, among other positions, as study group whip for the departments of small business development and transport.

He graduated from Naphuno College of Education in the late 1990’s as a qualified teacher and currently holds a degree in public management from Regenesys. He is currently pursuing a postgraduate diploma at the University of the Witwatersrand and plans to complete his Honours studies.

Mr Malematja rose through the ranks of the African National Congress and served on several structures, including the ANC’s branches in Thokoza, Palm Ridge, Paul Sehlogo Zone and Ekurhuleni RTT, as well as the ANC Youth League. He spent much of his youth in student structures at both secondary and tertiary education levels. At the branch level, he served as Chairperson of the South African Civic Organisation’s (SANCO) Thokoza zonal structure and as Chairperson of the Ekurhuleni region. Mr Malematja further served as provincial Chairperson of SANCO in Gauteng. In 2024, he was elected Deputy President of SANCO.
