From 2016 to 2019, Dr. Managa served as a PR Councilor in Vhembe District Municipality. From 2019 to Date, served as a member of Limpopo Provincial Legislature in the following portfolio Committees: Health, Standing Committee Public Participation and Petition, Public Woks Roads and Infrastructure and Social Development. Through these roles, Dr. Managa gained valuable insight into the governance challenges facing South Africa. In order to heighten her contribution in the aforementioned roles, Dr. Managa completed studies in Public Policy and African Studies with University of Johannesburg.

2024 June, Dr. Managa became the member of the Parliament, National Assembly House, serving in the Portfolio Committee on Forestry, Fisheries and Environment as the main member, and Mineral Resources and Energy.  

Education

Dr. Lilian Managa holds a Ph.D and Master in Public Health both from the University of Venda, Baccalaureus Curationis  in Health Sciences Education and Health sciences Management and  Advanced University Diploma in Health Sciences Management from Potchefstroom University, Post graduate  Diploma  in Nephrology from University of Port Elizabeth, 4 year Diploma in Nursing, General Community and Psychiatry and Midwifery Science from Venda Nursing College (Limpopo College of Nursing Thohoyandou Campus), Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and African Studies and Certificate in Public Policy and African Studies both from the University of Johannesburg. 

Inspired by Florence Nightingale, Dr. Managa joined the nursing fraternity in 1993 at the tender age of 17 as a student nurse at Venda Nursing College, now Limpopo College of Nursing (Thohoyandou Campus). Over the years, she rose through the ranks to hold leadership and managerial nursing positions both in public and private sectors.  Through the said positions, Dr Managa deepened her understanding of Health Governance. 

As the first trained practicing Nephrology practitioner in Vhembe District, Dr. Managa trained many practitioners in that field, particularly in renal practice, in May 2015 she was appointed as a Clinical Manager .  Dr. Managa worked as manager and as a leader in dialysis units as well as a director of Nephromed, a kidney care company based in South Africa. Dr. Managa is a member of the Committee appointed by the National Department of Health which is drafting the Renal Audit Tool.

The researcher has published three papers in accredited journals:

1.   Intimate partner violence among women and HIV risk among women in primary health care delivery services of Vhembe district Limpopo Province;

 2. Mapping the strategies to empower women against intimate partner violence occurrences in Limpopo province, South Africa : Scoping review; and

3. The PreCCL strategies to empower women against intimate partner violence occurrences in Limpopo province, South Africa.
