Parliament Membership History

I joined Parliament of the Republic of South Africa in 2002 as a member of Parliament. I have participated in various portfolio committees, served as a Whip of the Joint Monitoring Portfolio Committee on the Improvement of the Quality of Life and Status of Women. 

I also served as the Whip of the Health Portfolio Committee, Whip of the Portfolio Committee of Arts and Culture, was Acting Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Arts and Culture and also served as the Whip of the Social Development Portfolio Committee.I was also appointed as Chairperson of the Adhoc Committee on Filling of Vacancies. 

I served as the of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Steering Committee. I was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform in 2013, and also served as a member of the ANC Caucus Disciplinary Panel in 2013. I am currently the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation since May 2014.

Political Leadership Background

I was in exile for quite a long and became the member of the African National Congress (ANC) in exile. From exile I re-joined the ANC in NU-3 Mdantsane and also participated in the ANC branch of my hometown Peelton. I was active in recruiting people in the rural area of Peelton. I was appointed ANC Women’s League Convener intervene in the Eastern Cape in order to intervene in the League’s crisis at the time. I also served in the ANC and ANC Women’s League Provincial Executive Committees in the Eastern Cape. I am currently serving as member of the ANC Women’s League National Executive Committee (NEC) since 2013. I was appointed as the ANCWL Eastern Cape Disciplinary Committee Member. I have also been a member of ANC NEC from 2013 to date. I participate in various sub-committees of the ANC NEC and ANCWL NEC such as :

I passed my Grade 12 / Matric in Zwelitsha High School in King Williams Town.

I have a National Diploma in Nursing from Chainama College of Health Sciences

Management in Primary Health Services from Chainama College of Health Services

Effective management of basic and primary services and equal beneficiation and eradication of poverty.

I become compliant with the law and the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

I will serve the people of the Republic of South Africa without fear or favour. I will exhaust all my energies in ensuring that the lives of the people are improved for the better and also assist in making  South Africa a better country to live and invest.

As a Member of Parliament I must be accountable to my Constituency, the Citizens of South Africa as well as my Political Party.
