Today (Monday 27 January) saw the successful launch of a competition on nine SABC radio stations covering all language groups countrywide, to promote the State of the Nation Address. Parliament and the SABC are encouraging the public to participate in parliamentary processes and be part of the opening of Parliament scheduled next month. There will be one winner from each province, decided on the basis of a phone-in radio competition. A list of questions will be asked live on air and one South African per province who answers all the questions correctly this Friday (31 January) will have an opportunity to visit Cape Town for the State of the Nation Address when Parliament opens on Thursday 13 February.

Listeners will be asked questions about the State of the Nation Address and about Parliament during the afternoon drive shows. Those who answer all questions correctly on Friday stand a chance of winning the prize. One winner from each Province will win a night's accommodation in Cape Town, a return economy-class air ticket with airport and hotel transfers and a seat inside Parliament's Public Gallery for the State of the Nation Address. The 2014 theme is "20 years of a democratic Parliament". There is still plenty of time to listen to the stations listed below, if you want to take part

The competition is designed to create awareness about the workings of Parliament and widen public participation in its business, build a two-way engagement with South African citizens and profile the work of Parliament and the Presiding Officers.
