Parliament is already abuzz with preparations for the final State of the Nation address of the fourth Parliament, on the evening of 13 February. The address by President Jacob Zuma to the two Houses of Parliament will again be broadcast and televised live to the nation, as well as being featured on radio, screens across the country and a variety of social media. The Chief Justice and Judges President and Members of Provincial Legislatures, the nine provincial premiers and special guests are being invited, and all available tickets in the National Assembly chamber for this glittering event have already been allocated.

President Zuma's final State of the Nation address marks the beginning of the final session of the current Parliament, which has to be dissolved well in time before the yet-to-be announced national election to elect the fifth democratic Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. The theme is 20 years of a democratic Parliament.

A second State of the Nation will follow the national and provincial elections for the fifth Parliament, subject to the date of the elections. As outlined by the South African Constitution, the new President will be chosen by the National Assembly following the election.

With the assistance of the local media, the City Council of Cape Town and traffic authorities, full details of road closures and diverted routes will be broadcast and published to minimise disruptions to Mother City residents before and on 13 February 2014.
