It is important to note that as the Select Committee on Finance, while our work complements that of our sister committee in the National Assembly, the Standing Committee on Finance, we have a unique mandate of ensuring that provincial interests are taken into account in the national sphere of government.
It is not an accident, therefore, that we are referred to as Delegates to the NCOP. It is enshrined in Section 61, subsection 2 (a) of the Constitution of the Republic. It is for this reason, therefore, that whatever we do as a committee should reflect the aspirations of provincial legislatures.

Lastly, as part of our executive oversight, we invite the National Treasury and the South African Rrevenue Services or any other institution within the finance sector to come and brief the committee on any matter deemed to be pertinent. We also work jointly with the Standing Committee on Finance in processing the Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals as and when tabled to a joint sitting of the National Assembly and the NCOP by the Minister of Finance.
