An 11-year-old Mpumalanga Province's Schulzendal Trust praise singer, Mr Given Lubisi, was selected to praise President Jacob Zuma before he delivers the State of the Nation Address (Sona) before the joint sitting of Parliament in the National Assembly this evening.

Asked by InSession magazine (the parliamentary newsletter) about the way he feels about his selection to praise the President of the Republic of South Africa in a Joint Sitting of Parliament, Mr Lubisi said he was very excited when he heard the news of his selection to praise President Zuma before the joint sitting of Parliament. "I felt an extraordinary excitement. But because I was looking forward to that time when I would be given such an opportunity given the fact that I praised the MECs (Members of the Executive Council) and the Mpumalanga Premier when he delivered the State of the Province Address in 2016 and I realised that I was ready for the national platform level," said Mr Lubisi.

He said he was confident and looking forward to the moment when he is going to explode into action without being asked by the Speaker. "As a praise singer I wish I could go on now to do my work. The praise singing spirit is hatching within me waiting for the right moment to come," he said.

He said he was not intimidated by the size of the audience he is going to face. "My father, who is everything to me, is next to me and whenever I look at him I become more confident," he added.

According to Mr Lubisi, he got the praise singing gift from God as he is unable to say he was taught by someone. "No one can say he or she taught me. I looked at my father when he rehearsed praise singing at home and developed a very strong interest in it," he said.

"Given the depth of passion and interest within me for this gift, I am optimistic that praise singing is going to grow in me and take me to greater places like this 2017 State of the Nation Address," he said.

Mr Lubisi was born in 2005 at Schulzendal Trust in Mpumalanga. He is currently in Grade 6 at Schulzendal Primary School. He developed the love of praise singing by imitating his father, Mr Eric Sifiso Lubisi, who is a praise singer himself. This young praise singer has a history of praising high-profile people at high-profile events in Mpumalanga Province.

The people he praised include the MEC for Education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, of Mpumalanga Province during the hand-over of a certain school in Mpumalanga in 2016, he also praised the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr David Mabuza, at the 2016 State of the Province Address, he praised the Deputy Minister of Health at the World Environment Health Awareness in 2016 at White River and he also praised at countless church services and events as he is a regular worshipper at his parents' church.
