To expedite the completion of Parliament’s legacy reports for the 6th term, the national legislature is convening a physical strategic planning workshop for the chairpersons of all the parliamentary committees on 27 and 28 March 2023 at the Capital Park hotel, in Johannesburg.

The workshop aims to equip the chairpersons with the necessary skills and knowledge to complete legacy reports for the 6th term of Parliament, as the 6th parliamentary term nears its end next year. The workshop also seeks to interrogate questions that include questions such as - are parliamentary committees doing enough towards realising the goals of the National Development Plan.

All the chairpersons of committees will attend the workshop which will be addressed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, and the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Mr Amos Masondo.

The House Chairpersons of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces responsible for committees, Mr Cedric Frolick and Mr Jomo Nyambi, will co-chair the workshop.

The workshop further aims to provide the parliamentary chairpersons with the necessary determinants to decide which legislation could realistically be pursued towards conclusion during the remaining period of the 6th Parliament.

Furthermore, the workshop will cover topical matters central to the mandate of Parliament, including the Oversight and Accountability Model and explore the extent to which public participation is effective from the public's view. Consideration will also be given to the deployment of the latest technology employed in Parliament (e-voting and My Parliament App).
