JOB SUMMARY

As the Section Manager within Language Services, you will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of the Language Services Section within the parliament of the Republic of South Africa, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of quality Language translation, interpreting, editing and Hansard reporting services for Parliament.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Strategic Planning and Management
  • Operations Management
  • Financial Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Change Management
  • Terminology development, Research and innovation

To qualify, you must have:

Honours Degree in Languages or related qualification at NQF Level 8. An 8-year relevant experience, of which 5 years must be at the management level within a similar environment, delivering translation, interpreting, and transcribing services. Affiliation and experience with language boards will also be an added advantage. THIS POST IS SUBJECT TO A SIX (6) MONTHS PROBATION PERIOD.

You must also demonstrate:

  • Sound knowledge of Parliamentary Hansard and processes
  • Sound knowledge of Language translations, editing, transcribing and interpreting processes and procedures
  • Sound knowledge and experience in interpreting, translating, editing, proofreading, transcribing, collating and indexing
  • Advanced language editing skills
  • High-level proficiency in English and other official languages
  • Knowledge of the latest language technologies, machine translations, artificial intelligence and best practices
  • Understanding of the Constitution of South Africa, particularly Chapter 4 and Sections 6,9,29,30 and 31, with reference to the mandate of Parliament and language matters.
  • Understanding of the use of Official Languages Act, Act 12 of 2012
  • Understanding of the Financial Management of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act, Act 10 of 2009
  • Knowledge of Parliament’s Language Policy and appreciation of implantation implications
  • Knowledge of Parliamentary processes
  • Understanding of participatory democracy and political dynamics
  • Knowledge of Financial, Human Resources & Management Project Management processes and practices
  • Ability to develop and implement policy
