Have Your Say: Public Invitation to Participate in the Parliamentary Gang-Related Violence Summit
The Portfolio Committee on Police invites affected communities, residents, victims of crime, community-based organisations, religious institutions, youth structures, researchers, civil society organisations, businesses, and all interested stakeholders to participate in the Parliamentary Gang-related Violence Summit, which forms part of Parliament's Inquiry into Gang-related Violence.
The Summit will provide an important platform for affected persons and communities to engage directly with Parliament on the nature, causes, impact and consequences of gang-related violence and organised criminal activity. The Committee particularly encourages individuals and communities with lived experience of gang violence to participate and share their experiences, concerns and proposals aimed at improving community safety and strengthening the State's response to gang-related violence.
The Committee invites contributions and discussion on matters including, but not limited to:
- The causes and drivers of gang-related violence and organised criminal activity;
- The impact of gang-related violence on communities, families, schools, businesses, healthcare services, and social cohesion;
- Challenges relating to policing, corruption, crime intelligence, investigations, prosecutions, and broader criminal justice responses;
- Community safety initiatives, violence prevention programmes, and partnerships between communities and the State;
- The impact of gangsterism on children, young people, women, and other vulnerable members of society; and
- Legislative, policy, institutional or operational reforms required to strengthen crime prevention, public safety, and the State's response to gang-related violence.

Interested individuals and organisations are encouraged to indicate their intention to attend and, where possible, to submit any relevant information, written submissions, or matters they wish to raise before or during the Summit. Prior registration or written submissions are, however, not a prerequisite for participation.
Participants attending the Summit will be required to register upon arrival at the Parliamentary Precinct.
The proceedings of the Summit will be open to the public and the media, subject to parliamentary rules, venue capacity, safety considerations, and operational requirements.
The proceedings of the Summit, together with any oral or written submissions received, may be recorded and documented for the purposes of parliamentary oversight, reporting, and informing the Committee's inquiry, findings and recommendations.
