Just Transition Webinar 4: A Parliamentary perspective on progress towards meeting the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement


What is South Africa’s progress in Addressing Climate Disaster Preparedness, Food Systems, and Climate Finance?

As part of the Knowledge Management Strategy of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, the Parliamentary Research Unit will host a Webinar titled A Parliamentary perspective on progress towards meeting the goals of the Paris Climate Change Agreement. The objective of the webinar is to, among others, to facilitate an informed and inclusive discussion on South Africa's progress towards meeting the goals under the Paris Climate Change Agreement. The discussions will reflect on South Africa’s plans and progress on food systems, climate disaster resilience and climate finance in preparation of the CoP28 meeting that will be held from 30 November until 12 December 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

PANELLISTS

Mr Thomani Manungufala

Thomani is an environmental scientist specialising in natural resources management and governance. He is researcher, published author and a thought leader in sustainable development, among many other issues. Currently pursuing PhD in Geography at Stellenbosch University in South Africa investigating traditional leadership and water resources governance. His current research interests include equitable, just and sustainable water & energy future in the global south.

Ms Jeanie le Roux

Jeanie le Roux holds a Masters’ degree in Environmental Management and has over 10 years’ experience in the environmental NGO sector. She has supported parliamentary committees in the NCOP as the researcher responsible for human settlements, water and sanitation for the past 6 years, and currently supports the Select Committee on Land Reform, Environment, Mineral Resources and Energy.

Ms Nontobeko Qwabe

Ms. Qwabe is an experienced researcher with a passion for food security initiatives and a proven track record of success in the legislative sector. She is skilled in agriculture and rural development, and holds a Master of Agricultural Science degree in Rural Development Planning from the University of Pretoria.
