Parliament, Wednesday, 20 March 2024 – The Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration applauds the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ms Noxolo Kiviet and her department, for implementing the two-year multi-term wage agreement without any delays. The agreement applies to salary levels 1 to 12 for the 2024/25 financial year.

On 19 March 2024, the Minister announced that public servants across national and provincial departments will receive a 4.7% salary increase effective from 1 April 2024.

Considering government's huge wage bill, the committee believes the salary adjustment of 4.7% is in line with the market. Implementing the wage agreement would bring stability in the public sector. It will enable the Independent Electoral Commission to run smooth national and provincial elections with key partners such as the South African Police Service.

The chairperson of the committee, Ms Teliswa Mgweba, commended the Minister as this will help relieve the financial burden of many public servants. “We hope that public servants understand that government is confronted with a plethora of challenges and that all must be funded with scarce resources,” said the chairperson.
