Sunday, 4 June 2017 – The budget vote process continues this week in National Assembly and National Council of Provinces plenary sittings, together with other activities involving Parliament’s oversight and lawmaking responsibilities.

On Thursday, the National Assembly plenary sitting is scheduled to consider schedules of budget votes and the Appropriation Bill. The National Council of Provinces, meanwhile, is scheduled to hold policy debates on six budget votes over three days this week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

At Wednesday’s National Assembly sitting, Ministers will answer questions for oral reply from Members of the Assembly. The Ministers of Public Works, Rural Development and Land Reform, Science and Technology, Small Business Development, Telecommunications and Postal Services, Trade and Industry, Tourism and Transport are expected to appear to answer the questions.

The National Assembly sitting all day on Tuesday is scheduled to consider, among others, the Border Management Authority Bill, the Extension of Security of Tenure Amendment Bill, the Courts of Law Amendment Bill, the Judicial Matters Amendment Bill and the interim report of the Portfolio Committee on Public Works on the Expropriation Bill. Also scheduled for consideration are recommendations to fill vacancies in the Commission for Gender Equality.
