Parliament, Sunday, 20 August 2017 – Tomorrow’s (Monday, 21 August) public hearings on the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Bill by the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will take place as follows:

Venue: Dial Rock Community Hall, Saldanha Bay, Western Cape
Time: 10h00

This round of public hearings is the last on the Committee’s nationwide public consultation programme. The Committee will then resume deliberations on the inputs received during the public consultation process and obtain expert advice on some of the proposals made on the Bill on Tuesday, 22 and Wednesday, 23 August in Parliament.

The Bill seeks, among other things, to provide for the statutory recognition of the legitimate Khoi-San leadership and communities. The Bill also provides for the integration of recognised Khoi-San leaders into existing houses of traditional leadership, called houses of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders. Separate structures for the Khoi-San will fall away.
