Parliament, Tuesday 14 March 2017 – The Portfolio Committee on Police will tomorrow (Wednesday, 15 March) receive a briefing from the Minister of Police, Mr Nkosinathi Nhleko, on the recently proclaimed firearm amnesty. 

On March 31, the Minister of Police announced to Cabinet his intention to declare a firearm amnesty for 2017. As such, tomorrow’s meeting will provide an opportunity for Committee members to interrogate the Minister’s rollout plan. 

The Committee will also receive a briefing from the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Independent Police Investigative Directorate on the progress made in implementing the recommendations of the Farlam Commission.
