Parliament, Wednesday 11 October 2017 – Parliament’s Presiding Officers, National Assembly Speaker Ms Baleka Mbete and National Council of Provinces Chairperson Ms Thandi Modise, are shocked and saddened by the aftermath of the devastating severe weather conditions that have wreaked havoc in areas of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and other parts of the country.
On behalf of Parliament, the Presiding Officers have extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved families and expressed well-wishes to all those affected by the disaster. They have encouraged all South Africans to continue praying and extending a helping hand to those affected by the devastation.
Parliament also notes with appreciation the role of emergency services and local authorities, who work diligently to help those affected, as well as the individual bravery of citizens who continue to assist where they can.
