Parliament, Tuesday 10 October 2017 – National Council of Provinces’ (NCOP) Group Three permanent delegates will tomorrow, Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 October, conduct oversight visits at Chris Hani District Municipality. Tomorrow’s oversight visits follow a briefing meeting that took place earlier today at the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in Bisho as the NCOP delegation officially launched the week-long NCOP Provincial Week programme that is held nation-wide to assess employment creation initiatives by various sectors of society.

The NCOP delegation groups in the respective provinces are using this opportunity to conduct oversight visits to short and long term projects and interventions such as factories, industries and expanded public works projects to, among others, assess:

  • Measures in place to leverage the potential of township economies to create job opportunities for all.
  • How public and private partnerships are harnessed to open up job opportunities.

The oversight visits tomorrow by Group Three of the NCOP delegation will begin with a briefing meeting with Councillors, Eastern Cape Provincial Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Premier’s Office, Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA), project leaders, beneficiaries and various other stakeholders to take place at Ncorha Agricultural Project from 09h00 followed by:

Visit to Shiloh Irrigation Scheme from 10h00 – 11h00 on Thursday, 12 October.

The Provincial Week provides an opportunity for the NCOP and Legislatures, to engage directly with citizens on challenges they experience. It further provides an opportunity to receive reports from Government departments and municipalities on progress made regarding service delivery.
