Parliament, Monday, 20 November 2017 – The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries continues with public hearings on the National Forests Amendment Bill [B11-2016] in Mpumalanga province.

The objectives of the Bill are to amend the National Forests Act, 1998 (Act No.84 of 1998) so as to provide for clear definitions of natural forests and woodlands. Provide for public trusteeship of the nation’s forestry resources and increase the promotion and enforcement of sustainable forest management amongst others.

Thus far the Committee has held public hearings in Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Western Cape and Limpopo provinces.
