Parliament, Tuesday, 19 November 2019 – Tomorrow, on Wednesday 20 November at 15.00, Members of the National Assembly will ask oral questions to the Ministers from the Social Services Cluster. This cluster comprises of Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, the Minister of Basic Education, Minister of Human Settlement, Water and Sanitation, the Minister of Health and the Minister of Social Development..

Parliament uses a range of instruments to hold the executive accountable as section 92(2) of the Constitution stipulates that Cabinet Members are accountable collectively and individually to Parliament for the exercise of their powers and performances of their functions.

Among questions to be answered by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology scheduled for tomorrow's plenary sitting are:

  • What amount was lost by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme as a result of disbursing allowances for technical and vocational education and training college students through the defunct VBS Mutual Bank in 2017?
  • Whether he will intervene in the accommodation crisis at the University of Zululand’s Ongoye Campus; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

The National Assembly plenary will tomorrow also consider the Report of the Standing Committee on Finance on the Division of Revenue Amendment Bill. This will be followed by a debate on the same Bill.
