Parliament, Wednesday, 11 May 2022 – The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) was today forced to cancel its meeting to adopt the Eskom oversight report, due to the power utility’s failure to submit the information on the agreed date.

During SCOPA’s oversight visit to Eskom, some questions were not answered and Eskom made a commitment that it would submit all the required outstanding information to the committee by 29 April 2022.

Eskom only submitted the information last night without any explanation for the delay. The committee had given Eskom a deadline of 29 April 2022 to allow the committee a week to familiarise itself with the information so that it can finalise the oversight report today.

The committee is therefore unable to proceed with processing the report today as it needs time to peruse the information. The committee remains committed to assisting Eskom to overcome its challenges.
