Parliament, Sunday, 10 October 2021 – The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Beauty Dlulane, has congratulated South Africa’s senior men football team, Bafana Bafana, for securing a convincing victory against Ethiopia.

Ms Dlulalne said it has been a while since South was able to qualify for the Football World Cup. “The significance of the win is that South Africa is not only among the rated giants of the continent, but also gets to be strategically positioned for a straight qualification from their Group G.”

Ms Dlulane added: “The committee and the football loving South Africans realise this was not a mean feat given how shaky our recent results had been. We wish to congratulate our boys for a stellar performance.”

South Africa beat Ethiopia 3-1 in a must win world cup qualifier away from home thereby putting themselves in firm control of their journey to 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The last time South Africa qualified for the World Cup was in 1998, and then qualified as a host for the successful 2010 spectacle.
