Parliament, Monday, 5 June 2023 – The Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture has called on Netball South Africa to market activities around the trophy tour adequately, ahead of the World Cup.

The Chairperson of the committee, Ms Beauty Dlulane, said proper marketing will ensure inclusivity and exposure that the sport of Netball needs. She said: “Reality is that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to host an event as big as the world cup for any sport. It is South Africa’s turn, and South Africans should be aware of the activities building up to the world cup.”

Ms Dlulane said not everyone will have an honour to attend games, hence adequate marketing was non-negotiable.

South Africa will host the 16-team showpiece after it was awarded the right to host in 2019, and Cape Town identified as the host City.

Matches will be played at the Convention Centre, but with training facilities spread across the province.

“We need to aggressively build on the hype that has been generated up to so far. Netball South Africa need not let this opportunity go by unnoticed by South Africans.”

The world cup will be played from the 28th of July to 6th August 2023.
