Parliament, Thursday, 27 January 2022 – The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will tomorrow, Friday 28 January 2022, conclude its week-long oversight visit to Gauteng by visiting sites in Tshwane to assess the implementation of service delivery targets.

The objective of the visit has been to ascertain from both the national and the provincial departments, municipalities as well as other stakeholders whether the human settlements strategic plan is being implemented, progress in implementation of projects and programmes and also finding solutions to challenges if any. The delivery of quality housing is important especially in a densely populated province like Gauteng.

“The provision of sustainable human settlements is one of the key pillars in restoring the dignity of South Africans and attainment of set targets is necessary. Also, the sector has always been besieged with the challenge of substandard houses, manipulation of beneficiary lists as well as illegal occupation of unfinished houses, so the committee wants to ascertain if those challenges are experienced in Tshwane,” said Ms Machwene Semenya, the Chairperson of the committee.

The committee will visit Mamelodi Hostel to assess the implementation Hostel Redevelopment Programme and also the Inner City social housing project.
