Parliament, Tuesday, 25 November 2025 – The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education will tomorrow hold two sessions with key stakeholders in the post-school education and training sector to assess the state of readiness for the 2026 academic year.
The meeting will include engagements with the Department of Higher Education and Training, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), the South African Technical Vocational Education and Training Student Association (SATVETSA) and the South African Public Colleges Organisation (SAPCO).
In the afternoon, the committee will receive a briefing from the Minister of Higher Education, Mr Buti Manamela, on the appointment of Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs), their accounting authorities and chief executive officers. Additionally, the committee is scheduled to engage with the former Chairperson of the NSFAS Board, Dr Karen Stander, regarding issues she raised in her resignation from the scheme.
