Parliament, Tuesday 7 December 2021 – Parliament will host the Inaugural Charlotte Mannya Maxeke Memorial Lecture tomorrow at noon. The event will also commemorate the 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma will deliver the keynote address. Charlotte Maxeke was an exceptional political leader, community developer, social and political activist and the first black South African woman to graduate with a university degree. She graduated with a BSc from Wilberforce University, Ohio, in the United States of America in 1901.

Meanwhile, at 15.00, Members of the National Assembly (NA) will hold an oral questions session with the four Governance Cluster Ministers at its hybrid plenary sitting.

The cluster consists of Ministers responsible for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs; Ministry in the Presidency; Public Service and Administration, and Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities.

Parliament uses a range of instruments to scrutinise and oversee executive action. Section 92(2) of the Constitution also stipulates that Cabinet Members are accountable collectively and individually to Parliament for exercising their powers and performance of their functions.
