Parliament, Sunday, 11 October 2020 – The Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services has expressed its deepest condolences with the passing of the Deputy Chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Ms Priscilla Jana.

Committee Chairperson, Mr Bulelani Magwanishe, said Ms Jana served the country’s human rights sector diligently from an early age. “She was a human rights activist who put the needs of vulnerable South Africans first. Her involvement till the end with the SAHRC shows her service to our people.”

Ms Jana was a human rights lawyer and also a former Member of Parliament. She was 76 {years old] when she passed away.

“We want to send our sincerest condolences to her friends and family. South Africa is definitely poorer with this loss,” said Mr Magwanishe.
