Parliament, Tuesday, 12 September 2017 – The assessment of housing delivery in the Mpumalanga province by the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will proceed to the Govan Mbeki municipal area tomorrow (Wednesday, 13 September).

The Committee will first receive a briefing from municipal, provincial and national authorities on the implementation of housing projects, challenges experienced and interventions planned in addressing such challenges. The briefing will take place at the Govan Mbeki municipal chambers from 09h00.

The Committee will go out to conduct site inspections in Bethal at Emzinoni Community Residential Units(CRU), Integrated Residential Development Programme (IRPD) Phase 1. The Committee will also assess the informal settlements upgrading project in Embalenhle.

The Committee is in Mpumalanga to assess the province’s performance in delivering houses to its residents. Today, the Committee scrutinised housing projects in the Thaba Chweu Municipality, where it raised concern over the houses that were complete but had no services such as water and electricity. Another challenge the Committee found was the illegal occupation of CRUs by people who are not beneficiaries.

Yesterday (Monday, 11 September), the Committee was in Mbombela Municipality where it was pleased with progress it witnessed in projects like Tekwane North and South.
