Parliament, Friday 2 March 2018 – The Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Ms Thandi Modise, will address the Civil Society Consultative Dialogue on Friday 2nd March 2018 in Tshwane, Gauteng.

The purpose of the Civil Society Consultative Dialogue is to provide space for rural women and girls to share their realities and influence policies in achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment of rural women and girls.

This dialogue serves as a precursor to the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62) which will take place at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York from 12 - 23 March 2018. In attendance at the 62nd Session will be representatives of Member States, UN entities and ECOSOC accredited non-governmental organizations from all regions of the world.

During the said session, the CSW62 will consider “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls” as its priority theme and “Participation in and access of women to the media, information and communication technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women” as its review theme.

As such, to assist the South African Government on its deliberations at the CSW62, the Civil Society Consultative Dialogue, a collaboration between UN Women Multi-Country Office for Southern Africa, Ilitha Labantu and the African Women Independent Forum, will hold a Civil Society Consultative Dialogue in Tshwane on Friday 2nd March 2018.
