Parliament, Wednesday, 22 March 2017 – Public Hearings on the installation of prepaid electricity meters will be held at the Orlando Communal Hall in Mooki Street in Orlando East tomorrow (Thursday, 23 March 2017) from 10am.

Parliamentary Committees on Public Enterprises and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) are visiting parts of Soweto to hear concerns these residents have with the installation of prepaid electricity metering programme by Eskom.

In November 2015, residents of Orlando East petitioned the National Assembly, calling on it to determine why Eskom failed to respond to a petition delivered to it by the residents nor conducted a public education and participation drive before installing prepaid electricity meters in the area.

Tomorrow’s engagement will therefore grant the Committee an opportunity to ascertain whether these concerns have been attended to. The aggrieved residents and Eskom will be present in these interactions.
