Parliament, Monday 2 March 2020 – Deputy President David Mabuza will be in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) tomorrow, Tuesday 3 March 2020, for oral replies to questions.

Section 92(2) of the Constitution stipulates that Cabinet Members are accountable collectively and individually to Parliament for the exercise of powers and performance of their functions. Parliament uses a range of instruments to hold the Executive accountable, which include putting questions to the Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa.

Questions to the Deputy President scheduled for tomorrow's sitting will cover a range of matters including:

  • whether any measures are in place to ensure that the issue of South Sudan is resolved in order to ensure the formation of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity within the current extended period that ends in February 2020?
  • Whether, in light of the commitments by the President in his February 2020 State-of-the Nation-Address, the Government has developed any implementation timelines for the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme?

Meanwhile, the National Assembly is scheduled to feature an oral question and answer session to the Peace and Security Cluster on Wednesday 4 March 2020. This Cluster comprises the Ministers of Defence and Military Veterans, Home Affairs, International Relations and Cooperation, Justice and Correctional Services, Police and State Security.

In terms of Rule 246(4), no more than six questions for oral reply may be put to a Minister in respect of any one government department on any particular day.
