Parliament, Monday, 21 August 2017 – Fresh from the last of its nationwide public consultation programme on the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Bill in Western Cape’s Saldanha Bay today, the Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will, from Tuesday, 22 August, to Wednesday, 23 August, continue deliberations on this draft legislation, in meetings to be held as follows:

Venue : Committee Room M314, 3rd Floor, Marks Building, Parliament
Time : 09h30

The Committee held initial deliberations on the public hearings report in May this year. Tomorrow’s meeting will also see the office of the Auditor-General briefing MPs about the financial implications of the Bill.

Issues raised by residents of the West Coast district in Saldanha at today’s hearings ranged from concerns about the title of the bill, access to land, recognition of the Khoi-San language and culture. The need to recognise the Khoi-San as first nation was also raised.
