Parliament, Wednesday, 02 August 2017 – The Portfolio Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform will tomorrow move to Queenstown for the next leg of the nationwide public hearings on the Communal Property Associations Amendment Bill [B12-2017].

The Bill is intended to remedy challenges that have been identified in the implementation of the principal act. Some of the intentions are to provide for clarity on the objective of communal property associations; to extend the application of the act to certain labour tenants who acquired land; to provide for the establishment of a Communal Property Associations Office and the appointment of a Registrar of Communal Property Associations.

The Committee will hold hearings in all provinces to enable extensive contributions from communities affected by the act.
