Parliament, Monday, 9 October 2017 – The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education will tomorrow receive a status report on the Vuwani situation, including responses to the South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) report and recommendations. The Committee will be briefed by the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the Department of Safety and Security (SAPS), the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) and the Department of Intelligence. The Committee will also receive a briefing from the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training (Umalusi) on its 2016/17 annual report.

Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services will receive a briefing from the SAHRC on its annual report, a briefing by the Information Regulator on its activities (including organogram, resources needed to fully operationalise it and challenges/risks facing the institution and how they are being addressed) and a briefing by the Office of the Chief Justice and Judicial Administration on its annual report.
