Have Your Say: National Veld and Forest Fire Amendment Bill [B22-2016]

In line with Parliament’s core objective of facilitating public participation and involvement in legislative processes, the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will conduct Public Hearings in Parliament on the Liquor Products Amendment Bill [B10–2016], National Forests Amendment Bill [B11–2016] and National Veld and Forest Fire Amendment Bill [B22–2016] on Tuesday, 15 and Wednesday, 16 August 2017.

The National Veld and Forest Fire Amendment Bill [B22-2016] seeks to amend the National Veld and Forest Fire Act, 1998 (Act No. 101 of 1998), so as to amend and insert certain definitions; to provide for the facilitation of the formation of fire protection associations by a municipality or a traditional council; to compel a municipality, state-owned enterprise, public entities or other organ of State which owns land to join the fire protection associations; to extend the powers of entry, search, seizure and arrest to peace officers and traditional leaders; to amend the title of the Act to National Veldfire Act; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

Interested individuals and interest groups wishing to comment on the above-mentioned Bill are kindly requested to forward written submissions to the Portfolio Committee by no later than Friday, 04 August 2017. Stakeholders interested in making oral submissions are also requested to make a written request or contact our office by no later than Friday, 04 August 2017.
