Committee Welcomes Three-year Agreement
The Portfolio Committee on Public Service and Administration has commended the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) and labour unions for reaching a “first of its kind” agreement.
“We hope that this approach by DPSA and unions could be used for future negotiations for the country’s improved stability and heightened service delivery,” said Ms Joyce Moloi-Moropa, Committee Chairperson.
DPSA told the Committee that their three-year agreement, signed on 31 July, included a 7% salary increase with effect from 01 May and a CPI plus 1% increase in following years. Rewards for long serving public servants were also reviewed from receiving wrist watches to granting them additional leave days and cash rewards ranging from R7 500 to R20 000, depending on a number of years.
agreement increases the night shift allowance to R2.69 in the first year and up
to R4.00 in the third year. It also sees an increase in the housing allowance
from R800 to R900. The Department is in a process of developing a Government
Housing Scheme that will ensure that employees actually owned houses. Ms Moloi-Moropa emphasised that implementation
of everything contained in the agreement was critical.
